This striking artwork depicts a woman in traditional Northern Saudi Arabian dress, richly embroidered with stylized trees and plant motifs. The image is closely tied to Heather Colyer Ross’s important 1981 publication, The Art of Arabian Costume: A Saudi Arabian Profile, which documented and preserved the heritage of traditional Arabian dress through photographs and commissioned illustrations.

Dimensions (framed): [add actual measurements]

Details:

  • Artist’s impression of a Northern dress featuring detailed embroidery.

  • Signed with the initials “S.T.” at the hem of the dress.

  • Likely created as part of the commissioned illustrations for Ross’s 1981 landmark book.

  • Shows the fine detail of traditional embroidery in reds, blacks, and silvers, highlighted by jewelry and headdress.

  • Professionally framed with black matting and glass.

Condition:
Excellent overall with bright, well-preserved colors. Frame shows light handling wear consistent with age.

Collectibility:
This piece may represent an original illustration (hand-painted gouache/ink) created in preparation for the book, or an early proof/artist’s print associated with its publication. Either way, it is a rare and highly collectible work tied to one of the most important costume studies of the Middle East.
