This hand-crafted ceramic sculpture titled Mary Anne was commissioned by author Russell Hatler to promote the release of his novel South of Even. Modeled after the woman featured on the book’s cover — who was also Hatler’s wife — this piece captures the figure in a seated pose, echoing the novel’s visual aesthetic.
Finished in a glossy, gray-blue glaze, the stylized torso rests atop a textured base. While the statue originally included a red dress matching the book cover, it is displayed here without it to better showcase the sculptural form and glaze detail. There is a visible crack on the back and one side near the hip, but the structure remains stable and suitable for display.
