This extraordinary lidded decorative urn by Maitland-Smith is a commanding accent piece full of regal character and artisan detailing. The urn features a hand-painted coat of arms with lion and horse heraldry, reminiscent of noble European lineage, framed by intricate scrollwork and a richly antiqued finish.
The form is grand and urn-like, mounted on a pedestal base and topped with a dome-shaped lid featuring a pineapple-style finial. Two highly stylized gilt bird-form handles extend from either side—sculptural and dramatic. Each element reflects Maitland-Smith’s hallmark craftsmanship and attention to classical design.
Condition Notes:
There are two small imperfections: a minor chip on the edge of the lid, and a flake of loss at the end of one bird's tail. Both are cosmetic and do not detract from the overall presence or display quality.
